Concrete Floor Coatings
Why Use Concrete Coatings
Concrete floors experience much damage, including cracks, chipping, and stains. These could be from oil spills, foot traffic, car weight, or tools falling on the floor. In some cases, these types of damage are not significant enough to necessitate removing the floor and replacing it with a new one.
In such cases, we recommend using a specialized coating as an effective repair solution for damaged floors. Coating concrete floors increases their durability and beauty by covering concrete cracks, stains, and other imperfections. It also makes them easier to clean and maintain and increases the home’s value. Finally, it helps improve the floor’s safety by adding an anti-slip property, offering maximum grip.
Here are some of our concrete coating options that we offer in Calgary.
Epoxy coating
Epoxy floor coating is the most common because of its hardness, impact resistance, and durability. It comes in two parts, a polyamine hardener and epoxy resin. When mixed, these two chemicals become harder as they cure on the floor.
Many people use an epoxy coating on concrete floors that experience a lot of weight and friction, like garages, warehouses, and logistic facilities.
Urethane coatings
Also known as polyurethane floor coatings, urethane coatings have a similar finish to epoxy coatings. Their structure makes them perfect for high-pedestrian places like malls, car parks, airports, and hospitals.
They also cure faster than an epoxy coating, and their flexibility makes them ideal for use in low-freezing temperatures. We, however, don’t recommend them in high-moisture places because they will flake.
Polyaspartic floor coating
Polyaspartic coating is in the urethane coatings family, but we can use them for the whole flooring system plus coating. That reduces the number of applications. Polyaspartic floor coating is also highly customizable, meaning we can manipulate its curing time and pot life.
StreetBond Pavement Coatings
StreetBond coating permanently bonds to concrete surfaces offering a decorative, protective, and durable finish that is easier to clean and maintain. We recommend StreetBond coatings because they are durable, flexible, environmentally friendly, color stable, chemical resistant, and skid and slip resistant.
Clients can choose from several StreetBond pavement coatings depending on their goals and budget.
SB 150
This is a two-component, epoxy-modified, waterborne acrylic coating used on properly prepared and primed concrete. We recommend it for use on pedestrian and vehicle pavements.
SB 150AL
This coating is also two-component, epoxy-modified and waterborne. We usually prepare the surface with StreetBond Concrete Primer QS or Concrete Primer WB for the best finish.
It has a unique design that allows it to maintain its durability even in wet conditions. It also retains its adhesion, elongation, and flexibility, enabling concrete expansion and contraction without concrete cracks.
SB 120
This acrylic StreetBond coating is for use on concrete floors with proper preparation. Its formula allows us to use it in places with low or zero vehicular traffic.
DuraShield
StreetBond made this Solar Grey coating with advanced solar reflective technology for maximum pavement cooling. Its low-glare grey color also offers durable aesthetics in places with high vehicular traffic.
Pro 220
This liquid-applied, MMA resin-based product offers anti-skid and UV-stable colors. Its fast-curing formula makes it rainproof within 30 minutes of application and stress-resistant in around two hours. We use it primarily on light traffic, low volume, and cycle lanes.
Pro 250
This has the same properties as the Pro 220 but is more durable and suitable for places with high vehicular traffic.
